Tamana Country Club

Tamana Country Club in Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture is a forested hillside champion course with excellent access, located approximately 7km by car from the Kikusuido IC on the Kyushu Expressway. Rail access is also convenient, with approximately 10 minutes by taxi from JR Kagoshima Main Line Tamana Station, or approximately 5 minutes by taxi from JR Kyushu Shinkansen Shin-Tamana Station. The 18-hole course, which opened on October 3, 1976, was designed by Teruyama Iwao and preserves Kumamoto's natural environment to the greatest extent possible, featuring completely separated holes with gentle undulations and spacious fairways. The course has hosted various competitions including the Japan Professional Golf Championship and PGA tournaments, and is enjoyed by golfers ranging from average players to top amateurs. The on-course practice facility features a 270-yard, 16-station driving range, ideal for warming up. Hole 13 is a representative long hole at Tamana Country Club, with natural forest remaining on both sides of the second shot, making it advisable to select one club higher from around the 100-yard mark as a strategy tip. Hole 3, a water-carry short hole, is recommended for near-pin competitions, but it is a difficult hole requiring precise distance judgment as a bunker in front of the green often leads to bogey. Furthermore, hole 12, which features two ponds in its layout, is a downhill par 3 where optical illusion is common, so the key is to calculate the distance to the green with a slightly longer estimate and approach slightly toward the center of the green rather than at the pin.
